Files or images uploaded through the media tab or as attachments are recognized as Uploads. In WordPress, the “uploads” directory is the default location where all media files, such as images, videos, and audio files, are stored when they are uploaded to the website.

The default path for the Uploads directory is wp-content/uploads. The Uploads directory can be accessed and managed through the WordPress dashboard. Users can view, edit, and delete media files from this directory, as well as create and organize sub-directories to keep their files organized.

WordPress automatically creates a new sub-directory for each year and month that a file is uploaded, to keep the files organized by date. For example, a file uploaded in January 2022 would be stored in the wp-content/uploads/2022/01 directory.

The Uploads directory is an important part of a WordPress website, as it is where all media files are stored and accessed from. It is recommended to regularly backup the Uploads directory to ensure that all media files are safe and can be easily restored if needed.
